Shape the Future of CUNY BA: Join the Student Leadership Council!

Are you looking to make a tangible impact on the CUNY BA community? The CUNY BA Student Leadership Council (SLC) is officially opening nominations for the 2026-2027 Executive Board!

What is the CUNY BA SLC?

The Student Leadership Council (SLC) of the CUNY Baccalaureate for Unique and Interdisciplinary Studies is committed to:

  • Providing students with the knowledge, support, & resources necessary to lead successful lives.
  • Advancing the program’s local, regional, & national presence as a leader in individualized study.
  • Promoting student engagement within the program and across the university; 
  • Strengthening professional relations between students, administration, and alumni

How to Get Involved:  

All CUNY BA students, upon admission to the program, are admitted members of the CUNY BA SLC! Now is your chance to take that involvement to the next level by running for a leadership position.

Open Executive Board Positions on SLC:

We are seeking dedicated leaders for the following roles:

Chairperson [Management Level: Executive Director]

  • Manage and oversee all officers elected to the executive board, ensuring all strategies and initiatives align with the SLC’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Initiate and nurture strong strategic partnerships with college and university administration, alumni associations, and external parties.
  • Facilitate meetings hosted by the SLC with regard to the planning and execution of projects and initiatives relevant to, or concerning, the CUNY BA student body.
  • Oversee officer affairs, ensuring that each officer is aligned with their professional goals.

2. Secretary [Management Level: Senior Director]

  • Collaborate with officers and coordinate operations between the Chairperson, the Directors, the members, the Academic Director, and the program’s administrators.
  • Oversee the SLC’s internal policies, standard operating procedures, and other governing documents, as necessary.
  • Maintain, organize, and secure records, including meeting agendas and minutes, and all financial records, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
  • In the Chairperson’s absence, facilitate meetings hosted by the SLC.

3. Director, Alumni Relations & Professional Development [Management Level: Director]

  • Oversee and manage alumni relations, networking initiatives, and professional development programs, including events and workshops (co-)hosted by the SLC.
  • Drive SLC and CUNY BA recruitment efforts across the City University of New York’s 22+eligible campuses and externally, as directed by the Chairperson.
  • Identify and promote internal and external events, workshops, initiatives, programs, and resources that may be of interest to the CUNY BA community.
  • Develop relations with alumni and community agencies.

4. Director, Event Planner [Management Level: Director]

  • Organize social events to promote community building for CUNY BA students.
  • Develop a potential partnership with other CUNY schools and programs to co-host the event.
  • Collaborate with directors to manage budgets and promotional materials for the event
  • Organize and analyze student engagement for each event.

5. Director, Media and Community Engagement [Management Level: Director]

  • Draft, design, and create outreach flyers, emails, and promotional materials as needed, and circulate them to the appropriate parties for review and dissemination.
  • Oversee all communications engagements involving the SLC, ensuring all communications are consistent with internal policy.
  • Manage the SLC’s social media channels to connect with prospective students, current students, alumni, and staff.
  • Act as the SLC’s spokesperson when interfacing with external parties.
