Nikko A. Vaughn is the Continuing Education Specialist at Bard Prison Initiative, a joint position with the CUNY Baccalaureate for Interdisciplinary Studies (CUNY BA) at the CUNY Graduate Center. In this role, Nikko advises and assists adult learners with realizing their academic aspirations  by taking a holistic approach to college counseling. Nikko walks each student through the entire application process, from researching the most suitable and dynamic programs CUNY has to offer to helping them navigate financial aid. As a Continuing Education Specialist, he assists adult learners apply and get accepted to colleges and universities throughout New York City, and beyond.

Nikko holds a  bachelor’s degree in Political Theory and History from Bard college, and completed extensive coursework in Mathematics. Prior to his current position, Nikko taught Mathematics, Social Studies, and Writing in BPI TASC, BPI’s high school equivalency and pre-college program he helped to launched in 2016 in Brownsville, NY.  In partnership with Brownsville Community Justice Center (BCJC) — a subsidiary of the Center for Court Innovation — BPI TASC hires BPI alumni as “credible messengers” to advance the idea of transforming lives through education. He previously served as a Writing and Math Fellow in BPI, where Nikko tutored dozens of incarcerated college students. As a BPI graduate himself, he is now dedicated to using his experiences and spreading the message about the importance of education.
