NYCLU welcomes New York students and the education community to our back-to-school screenings of SAFE on Wednesday, September 10th, at 11 AM and 7 PM.
RSVP HERE.
SAFE is a 45-minute musical play chronicling a day in the life of two NYC public high school students. A hundred streets away from each other, Zyniah and Fredo get pulled out of the metal detector line for patdowns, triggering two very different days. Will their teachers understand, or will they get punished for being late to class and fall behind? Will Fredo get his ice skates back in time for tryouts after school? Is there anyone or anywhere at school who can make Zyniah feel as safe as she does in her bedroom?
SAFE explores how we got here – historically, mayorally – and how more cops, more metal detectors, and a punitive environment are making kids feel anything but safe. RSVP HERE.
DATE: Wednesday, September 10th, 2025
TIMES: 11 AM and 7 PM
WHERE: The Elebash Recital Hall at the CUNY Graduate Center (Midtown, Manhattan)
We will contact you the week of September 1st via email to confirm your RSVP.
