Middle States Accreditation Visit, October 4 – 7

graduate center building in Manhattan, New York

Dear CUNY BA community,

Please mark your calendars for the virtual site visit of our Middle States accreditation team, which will take place from Sunday, October 4, through Wednesday, October 7.

This visit is the culminating event in our Middle States reaccreditation process, which we are undergoing as part of the Graduate School and University Center. As many of you know, accreditation is the way the higher education community monitors itself to ensure that a school’s mission and goals, performance, and resources meet certain standards and that the institution is committed to student success and continuous improvement.

Our site visit team will be chaired by Dr. John “Fritz” Schwaller, who will be accompanied by faculty members and administrators from other colleges and universities.

The team will meet virtually with faculty, students, and staff throughout our six schools. These sessions will provide opportunities to share our successes and reflect on our accomplishments, challenges, and ideas for the future.

To prepare for the visit, we encourage everyone to read the institutional self-study report, particularly the executive summary and conclusion. You may access it through the CUNY Academic Commons and on The Graduate Center Middle States reaccreditation website. Our Middle State reaccreditation website has additional background and information about this process.

Our deepest thanks go to the faculty, students, and staff who have served on the Middle States steering committee and working groups, contributing vast amounts of time to this important initiative.

We look forward to working with you to ensure the success of the site visit and accreditation process.

UPDATE: The long-awaited Middle States accreditation virtual site visit is now underway. It began on Sunday afternoon when the visiting committee met informally with many of the people who have been involved in preparing for the visit, including crafting the self-study that was submitted to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education last spring. The site visit will conclude on Wednesday morning, when the chair of the visiting team, Dr. John “Fritz” Schwaller, will give an oral report of the team’s findings to the entire Graduate School and University Center community.

We invite you to join us for this webinar-style event on Wednesday, October 7, at 10:00 a.m. Please see the Zoom link details below.
