Introduction to reading and writing and modern Japanese and fundamental grammar.

Japanese Myths, Legends, and Folklore:
Building a Nation Through Fact and Fiction JPN 261.61
Who or what created Japan? What happens when you insult 47 samurai? How did a poet become the God of parking spaces? This course will identify key figures and events, both real and legend, that has played a role in shaping national and personal identity in Japanese culture. Students will engage with key texts and interpret them through perspectives related to religion, social circumstances, and political ideologies. There are no prerequisites for this course. This course is taught in English and entirely ONLINE.
