Led by CUNY BA Graduate Fellows and CUNY BA's Academic Director, Dr. Jody Clark-Vaisman, the workshops include 30-minute interactive sessions and tailored advice on your research projects. WORKSHOP: How to Find Research Opportunities

DESCRIPTION: Do you have interesting research topics or questions and want to develop them into a research paper? Or are you interested in getting involved in research programs across CUNY? Join the CUNY BA Fellows for a workshop on How to Find Research Opportunities!
There are many opportunities across CUNY for undergraduate students to get involved in scholarly research. CUNY and its colleges also offer many sponsored opportunities at institutions in the city and nationwide.
In this workshop, you will learn about the research program resources compiled by CUNY BA Fellows and a brief overview of the library, writing, and career resources across CUNY.

WORKSHOP: Think Like a Scholar: Reading a Research Article

DESCRIPTION: Familiarize yourself with the genre of research articles with Academic Director Dr. Jody Clark-Vaisman. In this brief 30-minute workshop, participants will learn how to read articles more effectively and efficiently. Participants will receive a note-taking worksheet to help parse traditional research articles, section by section. Please bring an assigned research article if you want to practice reading together at the end of the session! Dr. Clark-Vaisman is available for questions at the end.

WORKSHOP: Writing an Abstract
DATE: Thursday, February 9, 2023

DESCRIPTION: Undergraduate scholars are often asked to write abstracts that describe their research or creative projects for conferences, grants, scholarships, or CUNY BA Student Showcase. This workshop will provide an overview of the components of an abstract, an abstract model, and tips on how to write an effective abstract. You will learn skills and tips to apply to your abstracts, whether you are new to abstract writing or would like to learn more about it! Students are encouraged, but not required, to bring their research ideas or Student Showcase project description and workshop them with the Fellows.

WORKSHOP: Annotated Bibliography 
DATE: Friday, February 10, 2023
TIME: 2 PM - 2:30 PM
DESCRIPTION: An annotated bibliography offers a summary of the key points and arguments of the sources cited in your research, whether for your final term paper or a conference panel presentation.
In this workshop, you will learn about the elements of an annotated bibliography, how to compose it, and sample annotated bibliography entries. Students are encouraged, but not required, to bring at least one source (like a book, article, or document) and work with the Fellows to write an entry for an annotated bibliography.

WORKSHOP: Organizing Your Research Paper With a Thesis Statement

DESCRIPTION: Are you struggling to create a thesis statement for your research paper? Are you interested in learning how to use citation software? Join us for a workshop that will break down the components of a traditional thesis statement and guide you in writing your own. Additionally, we will give you a rundown of the citation software available at CUNY (such as Zotero), which are great tools for taking notes and organizing sources. With the skills gained in our workshop, you will be able to craft a thesis statement and arrange your paper with confidence.
