Home College for CUNY BA

CUNY Baccalaureate recruits students from within CUNY as well as outside of CUNY.  (Approximately 30% of our new admits each semester are students who were not enrolled in CUNY at the time of their CUNY application.)

In addition to being a part of the program, each CUNY Baccalaureate student must be matriculated at one of the CUNY colleges; the college of matriculation is known as the home college. The home college is where the student pays all tuition and fees, receives support services, participates in extracurricular activities like clubs and athletics, and handles all non-academic matters, such as financial aid.

Those not enrolled in a CUNY college can apply to both CUNY colleges and the CUNY BA Program at the same time. However, these are two different applications.

A community college may be the home college until a student has earned an associate’s degree or accumulated 68 credits, whichever comes first. At that point, the student must officially transfer to a senior college (4-year college), which becomes the new home college. (Students attempting to earn their associate’s degree en route to the BA/BS degree while in the program should take extra care in discussing their community college credit options and limits with their CUNY BA academic advisor.)

The CUNY BA home college receives the tuition/fees payment and the “headcount”; the college(s) the student attends receives the FTEs; the student’s first senior college of matriculation receives the graduation “credit.” Upon graduating, CUNY BA students are given alumni privileges at their home colleges. CUNY BA students do not have to take courses at their home college.

At the point of admission to CUNY BA, a request is made to the home college registrar to change students' academic plan (major) to CUNY BA in CUNYfirst. If that does not happen and students encounter problems with registration appointments, financial aid, departmental requirements, etc., they should go contact their CUNY BA advisor.
