Why choose CUNY BA?
- Customize your degree around your interests
- Combine different disciplines in one program
- Explore emerging or interdisciplinary topics
Areas of Concentration
An Area of Concentration is the main academic focus of your degree. It’s the subject or theme you choose to study in depth. Instead of following a traditional major, you design an Area of Concentration by selecting a group of courses that explore a topic, field, or question that interests you. View some of the areas of concentration that CUNY BA students have created for inspiration:
- Documentary Film Production
- Cybersecurity
- Urban Environmental Policy
- Cross-Cultural Psychology
- UX/UI Design and Technology
These are examples—your proposal should be your own unique combination of courses and ideas.

How does it work?
- You choose a topic or field you want to focus on.
- With guidance from your faculty mentor, you select courses that fit that focus.
- Your courses may come from different departments or colleges, depending on your academic goals.
- The application to the CUNY BA program is separate from your application to a CUNY home college.
You can skip right to the application by clicking "Apply" below, but to learn more about each of these components, watch our video or sign up for an Information Session. Click the "Information Sessions" button on the right to find out more.
