Nicholas Glastonbury is a PhD Candidate in cultural anthropology at CUNY Graduate Center, where he also completed a certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies. He is writing a dissertation on the culture and politics of sonic media in Kurdistan from the beginning of the Cold War to the present. He is also a literary translator from Turkish and Kurdish; his translation of the novel Every Fire You Tend received the 2020 TA First Translation Prize from the Society of Authors. His research has been supported by the Wenner-Gren Foundation, the Social Science Research Council, and the American Institute for Research in Turkey. He is a co-editor of Jadaliyya, an independent platform for analysis and commentary on the Middle East. For CUNY BA, Nicholas will focus on organizing workshops, events, and professional development for students.
