Calandra/Queens College Perugia Language and Culture program

Please take a look at this study abroad program in Perugia via Queens College:

This is the Italian Language course (6 undergraduate credits in Italian language and culture) that is being offered at the Universita per Stranieri (University for Foreigners). There are two month-long programs in either June or July, while some students stay for both sessions.

The estimated cost for the program is $2230, which includes the $400 program fee, $60 travel insurance and $1770 for 6 undergraduate credits tuition for CUNY matriculated students. IF student is receiving PELL – they will pay much less because PELL should pay most tuition costs, consult with Financial Aid. (Visiting Students will pay slightly higher tuition). Also included in this price is orientation at Queens College and in Perugia, entrance exam, certificate of attendance, tour of Perugia, Welcoming Dinner, Farewell Dinner, and cultural activities in Perugia. Also included will be a voucher for a two-day visit to an historical or artistic city outside of the Umbria region, book credit voucher, 25 vouchers for lunch/dinner at the University (during the weekdays), and much more.

To lessen the cost, we ask that students make their own travel and housing arrangements, which are not included above, which I will be able to assist them with. Many students fly directly to Rome or Milan and travel to Perugia by bus or train. We have had excellent results using www.kayak.com.

The Universita per Stranieri has secured dormitory rooms if they consider this option. In the past, for student housing apartment rental, we have used Cercalloggio Umbria, www.cercalloggio-umbria.gov.it, but student is also free to use your own sites for the best housing deal. Travel Insurance, which is required for all Queens College programs, is included. It is also important that Passport is valid for at least 90 days after the program ends.

Student will be tested upon arrival or if student has no Italian language background, student will be placed in the Beginner’s section. Students should contact the Study Abroad Advisor or the Language Department on their campus and notify them of your intent to study Italian through the Perugia Language and Culture program. Prof. Hermann Haller (hermann.haller@qc.cuny.edu) is the Academic Advisor for the Perugia program. Student should meet with him and discuss the courses in Italian taken. Student should also contact your Academic Advisor to see if these credits will satisfy any/all language requirements.

To become acquainted with fellow Perugia participants, student will have the option of sharing their e-mail address with them. This may be very helpful if they are looking for travel or housing partners, but also to become familiar with other participants.
